Aloha everybody. I am taking this class because I am considering becoming a preschool teacher after I am done with my education. I am currently working as a behavioral technician with an autistic child and I work as a skills trainer at a middle school with an older child. I sometimes get to sub in preschool classes as a skills trainer. I took ECED 340 a couple years ago when I was working full time at a preschool. I have a lot of experience documenting the actions of children because I have to take data on children as part of my job. I do not have much experience assessing children because that is usually the role of the teacher or the BCBA (Board certified behavior analyst). Before my job with children I worked as a veterinary technician and then as a manager at a animal rescue sanctuary on Maui. I also have my own pet sitting business that I do on the side. I walk dogs and take care of people's pets while they are on holiday. I enjoy animals and children and hope that I can do my best to support them in any way possible.
Aloha Jeannette!
ReplyDeleteI was also a Skill Trainer and a Registered Behavior Technician for 10 years before I became a Preschool Teacher. I really loved that job! The experience working as a Skills Trainer and RBT really helped when I became a teacher. Looking forward to learning with you in this class!
Thank you! I really appreciate that comment because I am also considering becoming a teacher. I am happy to ear that the job helped you with your career.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanette, welcome to ECED 440!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading about your experiences when you were in ECED 340, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about your work documenting and assessing the student you currently work with. Even though you might not have the experience of working with a larger group, your one-on-one experience will be quite useful to navigating this class. That's great that you're thinking of perhaps becoming a teacher in the long run - I hope you'll find this material helpful in both instances (working as a skills trainer, and perhaps later on down the road in a bigger classroom). Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and again, welcome!
Hi Brooke, I am trying to figure out how I can see your blog. I tried getting to it through Laulima and it said that I have no access, so I was hoping that I could find it through my blog. Not quite sure how this blog website works yet. Thank you so much for your help!
DeleteHi Jeanette!
ReplyDeleteWow, I think that it is so awesome to hear that you are a behaviorial technician, skills trainer, and that you are considering on becoming a pre-school teacher once you are done with your education. By reading your introduction, I can tell that you are a very patient person and you have a passion for helping others and animals too! I look forward to being your peer partner and getting to learn with you throughout this semester :)
